Baptisms

Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is one of the two sacraments recognised by the Church of Scotland, the other being the Sacrament of Holy Communion. When a child is baptised, parents (or other close family members) are asked to confess their own Christian faith and promise to bring their child up in that faith and in the life and worship of the church. The church expects at least one of the parents (or close family member) to be a member of the church or willing to become a member.

When the person being baptised is an adult then they make the appropriate promises.

At Cramond Kirk baptism is normally celebrated during the 10 am service on the last Sunday of the month. Occasionally however the last Sunday does not suit a family and so the service is held in our chapel at the close of morning worship.

If you are interested in having your child baptised, please come to a Sunday service and speak to one of our ministers at the close of the service and he will be glad to help you.

SERVICE OF BLESSING

Since 2003 the Church of Scotland has provided a service of blessing for children and at Cramond Kirk these services are held in the chapel at the close of morning worship.

If you would like to find out about a service of blessing for your child please contact the Kirk Office and one of our ministers will be pleased to explain more of what is involved.

The Office can be reached on 0131 336 2036 or at cramond.kirk@blueyonder.co.uk
