Christian Aid 2022

15 – 21 MAY 2022

House to House Deliveries/Collections For all volunteer collectors and deliverers, your red bags are available to be picked up from the Kirk Session House on 15 May. There are still 3 districts which are uncovered and it would be great if we could deliver in all of these districts. If you feel able to help with a district, please pick up one of the unnamed bags, write your name on the label and let us know which bag you have.

It is important that you return your red bag after CA Week even if you are only delivering envelopes.

The 10 km Run If you wish to sponsor Gillian in running the 10 km event on 28 May, there are sponsor forms and a collection box in the Session House.

Christian Aid Hamper We are looking for donations towards a hamper as part of our CA Fair raffle. Any donations can be handed in at the Kirk Office or given to one of the CA committee.

For further details on any of the above, please contact Gillian Hewitt or the Kirk Office at

Children’s Activities
There’ll also be activities & games for children so do come and join in - regardless of your age!

CRAMOND CHRISTIAN AID RECIPE BOOK We’re also putting together a recipe book which will be on sale at the CA Fair on 15 May. One of the women featured in this year’s Christian Aid campaign is Jessica Mwedzi who lives in Zimbabwe. We are told Jessica “smiles with love for her children as she stirs a single bowl of porridge for them. But she knows they’re hungry for more. This one bowl of porridge is all she and her family can eat that day: ‘My children crave a decent meal, but I can’t provide. We often go to bed on an empty stomach. It pains me to send them to bed hungry.’ So please support Jessica and Christian Aid and buy a recipe book at the Fair

2021 was a good year for growing tomatoes, late ripening meant some of us were still harvesting into late October. An all-time record sum of £431 was raised for Christian Aid despite the Covid “lockdown” and the cancellation of the Fair. Now is the time to order for the 2022 season. Supplies of award-winning “Ailsa Craig”, “Bloody Butcher”, “Alicante”, “Gardener’s Delight” and other varieties will be available, complete with growing-on instructions in time for Christian Aid Week. Pre-ordered tomato plants will be available for collection from the Kirk Hall on 15 May. These may be grown in large pots or Gro-Bags in greenhouses, conservatories, porches or on windowsills as well as outside in well-sheltered positions. Over the past 36 years over £5,000 has been raised for Christian Aid in this way. Easy to grow, the sight, scent and taste of ripe red (and occasionally yellow) tomatoes, just ready to pick, provides a welcome change from the pre-packaged variety which may have travelled thousands of miles by air to the supermarket. Ensure your supplies now with donations of say £1 per plant, by contacting Michael Dick on 281 7981 (or Crichton Mouat on 334 6583) for standard “Ailsa Craig” and other varieties plus some aubergines. You too could be enjoying freshly-plucked tomatoes this summer in addition to being kind to the environment & supporting Christian Aid but do hurry to place your order as supplies are limited and are of course subject to the weather!
